Service for authors
Print-on-demand services
Digital libraries (with document servers as electronic repositories) will not make printed information obsolete. On the contrary, the desire for the printed document is growing where such information systems are used. In many cases, though, this desire does not always extend to the entire document, simply to extracts or individual essays, chapters, quotations etc. The aim is often, therefore, only to obtain a printout of the part which is actually required.
The goal of the "ProPrint" (2000 - 2002) project was to link the document servers of the Humboldt University Library in Berlin and the State and University Library Göttingen. The main objective was to install a workflow at both sites which covered a range of services from author support through to the preparation, archiving and distribution of digital documents and digitised image content within the digital library.
A further objective was to provide a publishing-on-demand service for generating publications within the Berlin and Göttingen libraries. This allows the user to compile his/her own online publications from the joint stocks by selecting individual document parts and then having the specified documents printed via the Net.
The price of orders placed with this document supply service depends on the following factors:
- Colour or grey-scale printing
- Paper format (DIN A4 or DIN A5)
- Single volume incorporating multiple works, or printing of individual volumes
Any of these options can be selected when submitting an order. The minimum price for two volumes of average length (selected options: grey scale - DIN A5 - bound together) is therefore roughly half the maximum price (selected options: colour - DIN A4 - individual volumes).
